Posted on Sep 29, 2012 in Performances, Photo Gallery, What's New | 0 comments

This year we were invited to open up the 4th Annual Moon Festival and Fashion Show by Asian In NY. Though it was our first time performing at the event, we felt right at home. It didn’t hurt that the show took place in the New York Chinese School auditorium. Our commute was about 5 flights of stairs. Not bad! We didn’t know quite what to expect, but as we headed down for a quick run-through we quickly realized this was going to be a fun performance. Performers and models alike were scurrying around preparing for the evening. Chairs were being put in place for the sold out event....

Q&A with Charlotte Acevedo

Posted on Sep 6, 2012 in Fife Line, What's New | 0 comments

The fife line has always set the Crimson Kings apart from other drum corps. Traditionally corps are either fife & drum or drum & bugle, but rarely are there corps that integrate all three lines as a single unit. And teaching that line is the newest addition to the Crimson Kings instructional, Charlotte Acevedo. She is a flautist attending Lehman College majoring in music with a minor in psychology. Having played the flute since the 4th grade and also skilled at the piccolo, she brings a new dimension to the Corps. CK: Please describe your teaching style. CA: My teaching style depends...

Posted on Aug 19, 2012 in Performances, Photo Gallery, What's New | 0 comments

It’s the dog days of summer, and looking back at 2012 so far, the Crimson Kings have had a very accomplished 2012 so far. From increasing membership to recording the first ever album, we’ve continued to forge ahead with a string of performances and new experiences for the Corps. Last weekend, August 10th through the 11th, we managed to check off another one of our big goals. We performed at Hershey Park in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This is the first time in almost ten years in which the Corps has gone away for a weekend trip. The last trip was performing in Albany, New York honoring...

Crimson Kings Record First Album

Posted on Jul 2, 2012 in History, Photo Gallery, What's New | 0 comments

After an extremely successful Kickstarter campaign, we hit the studio on May 20th to record the first ever Crimson Kings album. We recorded at MSR Studios. It was an experience of a lifetime to record in a world-class studio like MSR. In the week prior to us using the facility, Bono and The Edge of U2 was there recording. Beyoncé was also there recording too! And recently Beatle’s legend Paul McCartney was recording at MSR. Saying the Crimson Kings in the same breath as these music greats is quite unreal. The members worked their butts off and sounded amazing. After a long but...

This year we were invited to participate in the 33rd Annual Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Festival hosted by the Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans. It took place Saturday, May 12th in the heart of DUMBO Brooklyn. It was a great change of pace for us as we’ve been working really hard preparing for the upcoming recording session. We kicked off the festival by marching through the main area towards the main stage performing Simple Gifts. Once on stage, we performed our parade routine without a hitch. It was actually the first performance for a few of our members too! They...

Crimson Kings Hosts The Edge

Posted on Apr 10, 2012 in History, Photo Gallery, What's New | 1 comment

It’s just about midnight and The Edge has just left the building. They are in town for a gig and asked to use our rehearsal space for a run-through of their show. For almost six straight hours they rehearsed with energy and heart. Each note, each toss, each beat kept Chinatown awake and tapping their toes. “It was a huge wall of sound when their brass line was rehearsing on the roof filling the air in all of lower Manhattan. I even heard that members were getting text messages from people in the neighborhood asking where that sound was coming from!” said assistant director...
