Color Guard Instructor

The New York Crimson Kings has an immediate opening for a color guard instructor. The Corps is looking for an individual interested in teaching and building a color/winter guard program in the middle of New York City. Prospective candidates must be able to teach youths 10-22 years old. You must be able to commit to a year-round part-time schedule or as much rehearsal as possible. September - June rehearsals are Sundays 1pm-4:30pm. July - August rehearsals are Saturday 11-2pm. Will consider candidates with DCI, DCA, WGI, marching band, independent, high school, and college experience(s).

Responsibilities

  • Teach routines in Marching Colorguard and Winter Guard
  • Teach choreography, foundational skills, flag and rifle work to all levels of students from beginner to advanced
  • Choreograph and produce routines for parades, special events and activities as required
  • Coordinate  operational aspects of the Crimson Kings Colorguard including managing equipment and uniform needs, choreographing and producing routines as required
  • Take initiative in establishing a competitive winter guard program within 3 years.
  • Assist in teaching the entire Corps choreography and performance skills as needed; the Corps as a whole is working towards participating in Soundsport.
  • Assist running full Corps ensemble
  • Ensure and uphold a safe fun educational environment for all Crimson Kings members through coaching and team building
  • Assist with recruiting new members for the Corps and especially the colorguard
  • Assist in logistical planning for the Corps, in conjunction with the instructional staff.

Requirements

  • Experience in color guard, dance performance or related field
  • Equivalent professional experience considered.
  • Potential for or an already established reputation as a colorguard coordinator.
  • Evidence of excellence or genuine interest in teaching.
  • Ability to work effectively with a small team
  • Must be able to attend at least 80% of rehearsals and performances.
  • No criminal record.

Compensation
Instructors are paid on a per hour basis for instruction and events you attend with the Corps.

FIFE Instructor

The New York Crimson Kings has an immediate opening for a fife instructor. Prospective candidates must be able to teach youths 10-22 years old. You must be able to commit to a year-round part-time schedule or as much rehearsal as possible. September - June rehearsals are Sundays 1pm-4:30pm. July - August rehearsals are Saturday 11-2pm. Will consider candidates with DCI, DCA, fife & drum, flute, marching band, independent, high school, and college experience(s).

Responsibilities

  • Teach foundational skills and music repertoire to all levels of students from beginner to advanced in a group setting
  • Coordinate operational aspects of the Crimson Kings fife line including managing equipment and uniform needs and producing routines as required
  • Take initiative in establishing a structured learning environment
  • Assist in teaching the entire Corps musicality and performance skills as needed; the Corps as a whole is working towards participating in Soundsport.
  • Assist running full Corps ensemble
  • Ensure and uphold a safe fun educational environment for all Crimson Kings members through coaching and team building
  • Assist with recruiting new members for the Corps and especially the fife line
